Terrace Design: How to Add Warmth and Comfort to Your Home

In this article, we will explain how to make the area in front of your house more comfortable. If you already know exactly what structure you want to order, go to the “Contacts” tab and send a request — our engineers will quickly estimate the cost and provide consultation.

So…

When buying or building a house, we often don’t think about arranging a terrace immediately. However, once you experience the effect of rain while sitting with a cup of coffee early in the morning, the thought of creating more comfortable conditions on the terrace will keep coming back.

Design Options

Glass Canopy

This is the easiest way to create an additional cosy space where you can hide from rain and snow. Unfortunately, it doesn’t protect as effectively from wind and dust. In this solution, an aluminium frame is installed, with the roof section covered by glass. This type of construction allows you to enjoy outdoor time only during the warm season.

Pergola System

A pergola is a very interesting way to create a terrace. The louvre system on the roof can be closed in bad weather to protect the terrace from rain, while on a sunny day the slats can be rotated to let in more sunlight. In practice, the Aluprof pergola system works very well.

Glass Terrace Systems

By choosing this option, you will be able to use the terrace from early spring to late autumn. This solution offers not only a roof, but also structures covering the entire perimeter. Solid glass with a thickness of 10-12 mm is used. At first glance, this may seem insufficient to ensure a comfortable temperature inside. However, as practice shows, once draughts are eliminated, the space becomes comfortable. The temperature difference between inside and outside will be about 7℃ (for example, if it’s 0℃ outside, it will be 7℃ on the terrace). Of course, provided that the terrace is adjacent to the house and not a completely separate structure. The glazing itself can be opening, sliding, or fixed (non-opening).

Winter Garden Systems

By installing a winter garden, we expand the living space of our home. Such a room can be used all year round, regardless of frost and precipitation. A glass roof will make the terrace maximally bright, and at night the glow of the stars will add romance. Aluminium profiles with thermal breaks and double-glazed windows do not let heat escape from the room, allowing plants to be grown throughout the year. Aluminium windows or panoramic sliding systems with a minimal number of visible profiles can be used as walls, which will visually enlarge the space, while the absence of unnecessary mullions will not limit the view. The panoramic sliding system Aluprof MB-Skyline Type R and the Schuco Panorama Design sliding system perform particularly well.

We have listed only a small part of the ways to create a sense of comfort on the terrace. To get a detailed consultation and explore possible glazing options, leave a request on our website.
